Director of rugby Kevin Sinfield confirmed a host of players face fitness checks ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Warrington Wolves at Macron Stadium, Bolton.

Adam Cuthbertson missed last Friday’s 38-22 defeat at Salford Red Devils to be at the birth of his baby son and Ryan Hall (shoulder) and Richie Myler (ankle) were unavailable due to injury.

Kallum Watkins will not play again this year after major knee surgery and Stevie Ward (concussion) will also miss the semi-final.

Other players on the casualty list include Brett Delaney, Anthony Mullally (concussion) and Brett Ferres (leg).

Jamie Jones-Buchanan, who has been out of action since May due to a knee injury, was in last week’s initial squad, but did not feature in the 17.

Carl Ablett (ankle) and Mitch Garbutt (knee) were hurt against Salford and did not train yesterday.

Assessing the injury situation, Sinfield said: “Fingers crossed we’ll have a couple back, but we may not know until Wednesday or Thursday this week. We’re hoping Richie Myler will be back, there’s a slight chance Brett Ferres will be back, a slight chance Ryan Hall will be back.

“Jamie Jones has a slight chance again, but all the decisions will be made later on in the week.

“Some of them have had a run [yesterday] which is good.”

Sinfield, who has been in charge for four games, said the uncertainty is nothing new. He added: “Having been here just over three weeks, it has been exactly the same.

“We’ve not been able to solidify a team until sometimes game day. That’s just how it is at the minute. We work through it.”

New signing Jordan Thompson will miss Rhinos’ opening two fixtures in the Qualifiers. Thompson, who is Cup-tied this weekend, was issued with a two-match penalty notice for a Grade C high tackle against Salford. Salford’s Lee Mossop escaped a ban after being sent-off for butting Ablett.
