Update as Leeds Rhinos' Danny Levi taken to hospital during loss at Castleford Tigers and 2nd player fails HIA
Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur has provided an update on hooker Danny Levi after his injury during today’s 36-34 loss at Castleford Tigers.
Levi was treated for more than 10 minutes before being taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to hospital. Rhinos also lost second-rower Chris Hankinson to a head injury which will rule him out of Sunday’s home game against Bradford Bulls.
“He has gone to hospital and he’ll need scans to his neck, that’s the concern at the moment,” Arthur said of Levi in his post-match press conference. “Hopefully it's all just precautionary.
“He came to when he came off the field, but there’s a bit of numbness, which is probably expected when you get a whack like that. He has got most of his feeling back, he's just a bit numb at times.”

Leeds later put out a statement saying the player had been given the all-clear following scans and allowed to go home. Levi’s wife Kimberly, who was at the game, later provided more information in a message on social media. Thanking fans for their support, she wrote: “Danny couldn’t move after going into the tackle, he had completely lost feeling in parts of his body, because he couldn’t move for a while, they initially feared spinal injury. His feeling has since returned and he is okay.”
She added: “Scans are a precaution to make sure there is no unseen damage to the spine or any head injury. A big thanks to all the staff and others for their support. Obviously shook us to see him in that situation but footy is not without its risks.”
Rhinos led 20-4 at the time of Levi’s injury, but conceded two tries in the five minutes straight afterwards. Arthur, though, refused to use that incident as an excuse for the result.
He admitted: “It wasn't nice, a few of the boys who went over to check on him had to walk away. I didn't like the look of him when he came off the field and we just hope he’s all right. The result will say it did have an impact, but we can make better choices around that.
“We just lacked concentration. We came out after half-time and started well, but bombed an opportunity to go 18 points clear and just kept inviting them into the contest. With the ball we were physically very good, but we didn't want to do the other part of it.”
