Leeds Rhinos recruit Jordan Thompson has been banned for two games by the Rugby Football League's match review panel.

Thompson was handed a two-match penalty notice for a grade C dangerous tackle in last Friday’s 38-22 defeat at Salford Red Devils.

That was his debut after joining Leeds from Leigh Centurions the previous day.

Thompson is Cup-tied this weekend - when Leeds face Warrington Wolves in a Ladbrokes Challenge Cup semi-final - and will miss their opening two fixtures in the Super-8s Qualifiers.

The review panel decided not to ban Salford prop Lee Mossop who was sent-off after 19 minutes for butting Rhinos’ Carl Ablett.

The panel decided it was “light contact” and issued a grade A charge and zero-match penalty notice.

Catalans Dragons’ Greg Bird is set to miss Sunday’s semi-final against St Helens.

He was charged with grade D dangerous contact in last Friday’s 25-20 defeat at Wigan Warriors and faces a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

Wigan’s Taulima Tautai will also face the tribunal on a similar charge.

The other player set to appear before the disciplinary panel is Hull KR’s Maurice Blair on a grade D “other contrary behaviour” charge.

He avoided a ban after being accused of grade A disputing a decision.

Teammate Will Oakes will miss one game for a grade B trip in the 20-16 derby win at Hull last Friday.

Catalans’ Ken Edwards was cautioned, but not banned, after being sent-off for a high tackle against Wigan.

Widnes Vikings’ Krisnan Inu received a caution for a dangerous throw in Sunday’s 52-24 loss to Castleford Tigers.
