Briscoe, 30, scored five tries in a man of the match performance when Rhinos crushed Hull KR 50-0 in the 2015 Coral Challenge Cup final and will be aiming for his second winner’s medal against Salford Red Devils on Saturday.

The winger, who has scored 81 tries in 161 appearances for Leeds, joined the club from Hull in 2014 and is their third longest-serving player, after Stevie Ward and Liam Sutcliffe.

In July the Yorkshire Evening Post revealed Briscoe had been offered a new deal, along with youngsters Jack Broadbent and Muizz Mustapha.

“I am really pleased to have my future sorted, especially in these uncertain times for so many,” Briscoe said.

“I am happy with my form since coming back into the team and it is an exciting time to be part of the squad.

“We have seen the young lads come through this season; I enjoy working with them and it brings the best out of me.”

Briscoe insisted: “We have got real competition now for the outside-backs and that is forcing everyone to be their very best in every training session.

“I think it is great for them and great for the team that they bring that enthusiasm into the camp.”

Briscoe, who returned to the side in August after 12 months on the sidelines with a knee injury, gained a first class honours degree from Leeds Beckett University this summer and will combine his playing commitments with studying for a PhD.

Rhinos’ director of rugby Kevin Sinfield said: “We are pleased to have agreed a new deal with Tom.

“He is one of our most experienced players and a key senior member of our group.

“He has been great with our young players this season since we returned from lockdown.

“He has led by example with his own form, especially after the hard work and commitment he showed to get back from a serious knee injury last year.”
