There's a tough weekend in prospect for Championship local rivals

THE PART-TIME players of Dewsbury Rams, Featherstone Rovers and Batley Bulldogs have to get themselves up for another big game in the Kingstone Press Championship tomorrow (all 3pm).

Rams have 10 players unavailable for the visit of Leigh Centurions, but boss Glenn Morrison said: “We’ve pushed them hard every time we’ve played them and we know if we get 50 per cent of the ball we can compete with anyone.”

Rovers are also going into tomorrow’s game “busted” according to boss Jon Sharp. Anthony Thackeray and Kyle Briggs are on their casualty list ahead of Sheffield Eagles’ visit and Sharp said: “We are going to have to find a way of winning without a recognised half-back.”

Eagles have yet to hit their best form this season and Rovers are protecting an unbeaten home record.

“Our last three games have been against full-time teams,” Sharp added. “We have done extremely well, but Sheffield will certainly be there or thereabouts at the end of the year, so it is going to be tough.”

Batley came through their Easter wins over Dewsbury and Whitehaven with no major new injury concerns. They travel to Oldham tomorrow and coach John Kear said: “We were delighted with the last two wins, but the third game over Easter is always the hardest. It is a dangerous fixture because Oldham are playing some good rugby league and we have to be fully prepared, as we are for any team.”
