Super League youngsters from Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves raise funds in memory of former Leeds Rhinos player Nick Smith

A sponsored run in memory of former Leeds Rhinos academy player Nick Smith has raised £1,500.

Wigan Warriors' Amir Bourouh and Morgan Smithies, both 19 and 18-year-old Warrington Wolves player Riley Dean completed their 48 kilometres in 48 hours challenge for the Nick Smith Foundation.

The trio ran the distance around Scammonden Reservoir, near Halifax, on Monday and Tuesday.

They grew up playing for Halifax community club Siddal, where Nick Smith was captain for many years.

Smith, who played alongside Kevin Sinfield in Rhinos' academy, died in December, 2017 from motor neurone disease, at the age of just 38.

The Nick Smith Foundation charity has raised more than £100,000 in the two years since it was launched.

It backs research into MND, ensures there is more help for those diagnosed with the condition, supports children having to face the death of a parent at a young age and encourages youngsters to take up rugby league.
