The former Leeds Beckett University student, who has a degree in sports and exercise therapy and a Masters in physiotherapy, has previously worked in Betfred Super League for Hull KR and was on St Helens' backroom team when they won the league leaders' shield and Grand Final in 2019.

He was at Bath Rugby Union club before joining Leeds and has also worked for Yorkshire Carnegie in the 15-a-side code.

The pre-season has also seen Jason Davidson resume his previous job as Rhinos' head conditioner, after two seasons in a team manager role.

He and Flanagan complement what director of rugby Kevin Sinfield reckons is an outstanding coaching group.

Sean Long has joined Rhinos' staff as an assistant to coach Richard Agar, working alongside Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Chev Walker.

"I don’t think we’ve had a stronger coaching team," Sinfield said.

"I can’t remember the last time we had the quality and the geniuses we have here.

"Look at Rich and the job he has done here, but then Sean Long and Jamie Jones.

"I saw something JP [ex-player Jamie Peacock] said the other week - they’re two of the strangest blokes you will ever meet, who are completely out there!

"But they are actually brilliant, they are so creative between them.

"Everyone knows how close I am with Jonesy anyway - but I have really enjoyed working with Sean.

"He’s had a huge impact and the three of them are so strong."
