Nothing won yet warns coach Kear

COACH JOHN Kear is refusing to get carried away with Batley Bulldogs' fine start to the season.

Bulldogs are fifth in the Kingstone Press Championship after wins over Leigh Centurions, Sheffield Eagles and Halifax couple with a two-point loss at Featherstone Rovers.

Dominic Brambani scored a try, three goals and a drop in the 17-12 success at Halifax two days ago and Kear said: “They are playing well.

“We’ve played three of last year’s top-four and the Championship Shield winners and they’ve acquitted themselves really well.

“But they can’t start patting themselves on the back. If you do that, you will get bitten.

“We will probably be favourites this week when we play Workington, but people can’t discount them.

“It is a very tough league and the challenge for the coaching staff is to make sure they keep the right mindset, and for the players it is to be tough on themselves and be aware we have another tough game coming up on Sunday.”

Chris Ulugia (ankle) and Joe Chandler (head) suffered knocks in the game against Halifax.

Kear added: “Joe went off after 13 minutes and that is more credit to the players.

“He could not go back on, so we played the vast majority of the game with 16 men.”
