King played for Dewsbury Rams and York City Knights in 2019 before joining the Parksiders on a one-year deal.

“I am delighted he has decided to stay,” coach Gary Thornton - whose team were top of Betfred League One before the coronavirus shutdown - said.

“He was a little low on confidence when he first joined us from Dewsbury, as he was disappointed at not being able to break into the Rams’ first team on a regular basis, but once he settled in - and we gave him the opportunity to show what he could do - he quickly gained in confidence and fitted into our group really well.”

King played in Hunslet’s Coral Challenge Cup wins over Coventry Bears and North Wales Crusaders this year and Thornton added: “Danny offers something a little different with his size and offloading abilities and I’m hoping he can develop even further next season.

“With the departure of Josh Tonks to Batley I think there is a great opportunity for him to push on now and make that back-row spot his own.”

King, 23, said: “I’m very excited about re-signing.

“It was a no-brainer really, GT [Thornton] is trying to keep the same great group of lads together, he’s pretty much succeeding and the aim’s got to be that we kick on from how we were doing before the lockdown.”
