Lillycrop injury blow for Batley Bulldogs

BATLEY BULLDOGS suffered two potentially season-ending injuries in their 56-14 defeat at Toulouse Olympique.

Coach Matt Diskin confirmed: “Tom Lillycrop fractured his collarbone and he’s out for the season.

“He went for a scan over there and the medical staff took care of him – our physio and doctor did a great job and he was able to fly back on Sunday.

“Brad Day has a hamstring tear. We don’t know the severity yet. He may have a chance of playing if we reach the final, but it is highly unlikely.”

Despite the scoreline, Diskin felt Batley, who are second behind Toulouse in the Shield table, gave a good account of themselves in the south of France.

“It was a tough day at the office, but there was plenty of effort,” he said.

“The boys tried really hard and for long periods we matched them. We defended really well for four or five plays, then expected a kick and the players switched off and they scored on the final play.

“That happened numerous times, just lapses in concentration.”

Diskin added: “I am not worried about it. We have two big games coming up against Sheffield Eagles and if we win those and end up back in Toulouse for the final I am confident we can go there and do a job.”
