Leeds Rhinos: Youth to benefit as lasting legacy is planned for Leeds legend

Jepson, who was a teacher in Leeds and went on to become one of rugby league’s most respected administrators, died last August, aged 96. The Harry Jepson Foundation will be launched at Headingley on Friday, when Rhinos take on Catalans Dragons.

Grandson Phil Jepson said: “Since our grandad’s passing, there has been a huge void in our lives as well as in the rugby world as frequently expressed to us by many in the community.

“With that in mind and wanting to preserve his influence on so many, we began to think of how to create a sustainable legacy for Harry, one that would lastingly commemorate his passions and values – for rugby, education and learning. As a result, we have created the Harry Jepson Foundation.

“It will support the rugby league development of youngsters by providing opportunities and fostering closer relations, one of which will be to work with the French Rugby League Federation to enable their schools to tour here and vice versa.”

He continued: “Also, with the assistance of Leeds schools, we will be looking at running a scheme to promote and reward literacy, because reading and writing were as important, if not more so, to him.”
