Leeds Rhinos: Winger Hall sets sights on a speedy recovery

INJURED WINGER Ryan Hall hopes to be back on the field within weeks, rather than months.

Hall suffered ankle damage midway through Rhinos’ win over St Helens on March 18 and has missed the last three games.

Leeds will again be without both their first-choice wingers when they visit Salford Red Devils tomorrow, with Tom Briscoe (shoulder) also on the casualty list.

Assessing his injury, Hall said: “It has certainly been better!

“I have seen better days, but part and parcel of playing rugby is you have knocks from time to time.

“I am in capable hands, the physios are really looking after me and hopefully I’ll be back before too long.”

Hall admitted it is “hard to say” when he will get back on the field.

“It is one of those things where it will be right when it’s right. It will be a couple of weeks yet, but I think it’s a shorter turnaround than months.”

The England man made 31 appearances during last year’s treble-winning campaign and then featured in all three Tests against New Zealand in the autumn.

That meant he had only a short pre-season, but he denied a break now is what he needed.

“I think that’s looking for too many positives,” Hall said.

“I think if you look back, I don’t miss many games and I think I’ve always been quite decent all the way through that.

“I don’t think it’s fair to say a rest will do me good, because playing without a rest has done me good.

“We’ll just wait and see what happens. Sport is a funny thing, things happen and you just have to get on with it.”

Rhinos have lost all three matches since Hall was injured and have won only twice in 10 competitive games this year.

He admitted some “technical” aspects of their performances are causing them to run low on energy and that was a major factor during the recent fixture pile-up.

“Over Easter the energy battle is one you have to win,” he added.

“We haven’t won that one and it has shown in results.

“We have had a glimmer of playing well in patches of different games throughout the year, but we need to start piecing it all together and putting some consistent performances in.”

Hall’s left-side centre Joel Moon will miss tomorrow’s game due to a groin injury, so Leeds are without three of their first-choice outside-backs.

Josh Walters, who left the ground with a foot in a protective boot following last Friday’s loss to Hull KR, also drops out, but Rhinos could welcome back forward Brett Delaney following three games on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem.

Full-back Ashton Golding – who warmed up as 18th man last week – has been named in the 19 for the first time since suffering an ankle injury away to Widnes Vikings almost two months ago.

Half-back Jordan Lilley and prop Jordan Baldwinson – who both played on dual registration for Featherstone Rovers last week – are also included.

As well as Briscoe, other players out injured are Hall (ankle), Jimmy Keinhorst (calf), Brett Ferres (calf) and Stevie Ward (knee).

Meanwhile, Rhinos under-16s face Warrington Wolves at Stanningley tomorrow (noon).
