Leeds Rhinos v Warrington Wolves - visitors keen to silence home crowd

Warrington Wolves will have to cope not only with an on-song Leeds Rhinos team, but also Emerald Headingley’s “hostile environment” on Friday, their hooker Danny Walker says.

Walker joined Warrington from Widnes Vikings during the off-season and has been a substitute in each of their four games so far this year.

They are unbeaten at home, but have yet to win on their travels, after defeats at Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity.

“The Friday night lights at Headingley is not just a cliché – it’s going to be a big night,” Walker predicted.

Leeds are a winning team and a champion club, having won it plenty of times.

“I’ve played at Headingley a few times when I was at Widnes and there’s definitely a hostile environment.

“You have 18,000 fans on your back, but it’s a challenge you love playing against.

“Especially now with the new Headingley, it’s one of the best stadiums in the world of rugby league so hopefully if I get my chance it’ll be good to experience that.”

Warrington began Betfred Super League round five in sixth place, one behind Leeds on points difference.

They battled to a 32-22 victory over bottom club Toronto Wolfpack a week ago and Walker reckons they need to improve to break their away duck.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but a win’s a win,” he said. “We got the two points which is all that matters at this stage of the season.

“Hopefully we can put in a good performance this week and get another two points off the back of it.

“We’ve been working on righting a few wrongs from last week and on a few things to improve on. We’ve focused on areas in which we can hurt Leeds and what we see as weak areas.”
