A founder member of Rhinos’ golden generation, McGuire played in all eight of their Grand Final wins from 2004 to 2017.

The Leeds-born half-back was man of the match in Rhinos’ 2015 and 2017 Old Trafford victories, skippering the side three years ago and scoring two tries and two drop goals in his final appearance for the club.

He also bagged a brace in 2008 and 2015, scored the deciding try in 2004 and touched down when Leeds lost to Bradord the following year.

McGuire ran in 39 tries in 30 games during the 2004 season - a Rhinos record in the summer era.

Only 10 players have bettered McGuire’s 424 appearances for Leeds and he is the club’s fourth highest try scorer, with 267.

The three players above him were all wingers.

His 247 Super League tries is a competition record, 48 more than nearest rivals Keith Senior and Paul Wellens.

He also touched down nine times in 19 games for Great Britain/England.

A product of the East Leeds club, McGuire made his name as a teenager with two tries in Leeds’ epic 2003 Challenge Cup semi-final win over St Helens.

McGuire was frequently compared with another Leeds-born star Garry Schofield and like him made his name as an outstanding support player before developing an all-round game later in his career.

A member of Leeds’ 2014 and 2015 Challenge Cup-winning sides, McGuire also featured in three World Club Challenge victories, scoring a classic try against Canterbury Bulldogs at Elland Road in 2005.

He spent the final two seasons of his playing career at Hull KR before joining the Robins’ backroom staff.
