He made his debut as a 21-year-old against Featherstone Rovers at Headingley on September 27, 1930, bagging a brace of tries.

His final match for Leeds was a home derby with Bramley on September 2, 1939, when he made his 383rd appearance and scored his 392nd try.

That remains a club best, 51 ahead of his nearest challenger - and the only other player to have touched down more than 300 times for Leeds - John Atkinson.

Known as the Toowoomba Ghost, after his hometown in Queensland, Harris scored 63 tries in 1935-36, which is another club record.

He is also second (58), third (57), fourth (45) sixth (43) and joint-eighth (41) on Leeds’ list of most tries scored in a single campaign.

Harris touched down eight times in a game against Bradford Northern in 1931 - sharing the club record with Fred Webster - and scored seven in one match against Acton and Willesden five years later.

He grabbed a nap hand of tries on six separate occasions.

In 1935-36 Harris - who was famed for his change of pace and balanced running style - crossed in a British record 17 successive matches, a streak which produced 36 tries.

The Australian was the only try scorer when Leeds beat Swinton at Wigan to win the Challenge Cup in 1932 and touched down in their Wembley victory over Warrington four years later.

As well as the two Challenge Cup triumphs, Harris was a fine-time Yorkshire Cup winner and collected a similar number of Yorkshire Championship medals.

He was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame last year.
