Our man Peter Smith delves through the YEP archives to find out what happened on this day in the history of Leeds Rhinos.

2009

Tries by Carl Ablett, Kevin Sinfield, both inside the opening six minutes and Danny McGuire – plus four goals from Sinfield – secured a 20-14 win for Leeds at Warrington Wolves.

It was former Rhinos coach Tony Smith’s first game in charge of Warrington.

2002

Rhinos made their final visit to the Boulevard and were crushed 38-6 by Hull.

They were trailing 26-6 when hooker Matt Diskin, was sent off for a foul on Jason Smith. Marcus St Hilaire scored Leeds’ try, converted by Kevin Sinfield.

1987

Ian Wilkinson, David Creasser and Keith Rayne were Leeds’ try scorers in a 14-12 win over Salford at the Willows.

Creasser kicked the visitors’ goal.

1975

Leeds overpowered Bradford Northern 22-6 in a Challenge Cup quarter-final at Headingley.

Full-back David Marshall was the star man for Leeds, scoring a try and five goals. Chris Sanderson, Les Dyl and Tony Fisher also crossed.

1941

Eighty years ago today Leeds were beaten 9-3 by Huddersfield at Fartown. Fred Harris scored the visitors’ try.
