Leeds Rhinos must keep their foot on the pedal for tough tests to come - YEP Jury

Our panel of fans are still buzzing from the 66-12 victory over Toronto Wolfpack but are wary of tougher challenges to come.

Well, that was another professional performance against Toronto Wolfpack with some excellent attacking plays, and we defended like we were only winning by a few points.

Our half-backs Luke Gale and Robert Lui gave another polished display playing behind a dominant pack and it is a long time since we have seen that from a Leeds side.

The pass round the back from Gale to Richie Myler was worth the admission fee alone. It was sublime!

The tries were shared out across the team, they were spectacular, close range and all converted by the trusty boot of Rhyse Martin.

Toronto didn’t offer much of a test but as the saying goes you can only play what’s in front of you.

Congratulations to them on becoming the first side to score against us for over two and a half hours.

Special plaudits to Myler who I feel has made the full-back position his own.

With the Catalans Dragons game now taking place behind close doors due to coronavirus, let’s hope the Rhinos can bring the two points home.

GRAHAM POULTER

Well that was yet another very impressive team performance by Leeds Rhinos against Toronto Wolfpack.

The combinations are working very well indeed and they are also backing each other up in both attack and defence.

It just shows how much hard work has gone in on the training pitch. It’s definitely showing in the games that they are playing, the desire and enthusiasm to attack and defend.

Another very good thing to see is how very ruthless they are becoming in keeping the foot on the pedal, when in times before they have eased off in games and allowed the opposition opportunities back into games.

There is now a steely resolve in the team. It’s also good to see us in the points plus column when before we have been in the minus for a long time.

So next up is Catalans away on Saturday. I do expect that Catalans will pose us a lot of different questions to what we have been asked so far, especially with James Maloney pulling the strings for them.

They look as if they are playing as a team as well, instead of being individuals.

I’m confident that Leeds will come up with the answers and return from France with the two points.

Toronto Wolfpack came and they huffed and puffed but they couldn’t blow our house down.

I’ve never been a big fan of the Thursday night games, but last week was an amazing night. To get over 12,000 fans in on a Thursday night, with no away supporters just shows how great our fans are, and the players are put on a great show to watch.

I think Luke Gale should now come with a Met office warning, as he is blowing teams away, that round the back pass was pure genius. I do hope he stays fit all year.

The pack was munching metres with every carry, we have so much threat on each flank now too, and with Rhyse Martin’s kicking, the signs are looking good for at least a top four or five finish.

Tougher tests await, and with big games coming up this month, it’s imperative our great back room staff can keep the guys fit.

Catalans away is always a tricky game as you never know which French side will turn up. Being full of confidence I am sure two points will be on the plane home.

Another good night at Emerald Headingley and another two points. Four wins from five at this point in the season is much better than 2018 or 2019.

There is a great togetherness in the side and everyone looks to be enjoying playing for the Rhinos.

Luke Gale is leading from the front with Rob Lui not far behind. Richie Myler had another good stint at full-back. Some of the tries they scored against Toronto were sublime. The players are not afraid to pass the ball and the support play is excellent.

Everyone is doing their bit. There is also the feeling that things can only improve after the last couple of performances.

A visit to France is next for Leeds Rhinos. Catalans Dragons seem to be getting better with each game they play. Sam Tomkins and James Maloney are the stand-out players so far this year. Tomkins has been handed a two-match suspension so will not be playing.

Our players will be confident going into this game after scoring 102 points in the last two games. Let’s hope that confidence leads to another win and some more spectacular tries.

The Toronto Wolfpack game could have been a huge banana skin for us given our performance against Warrington Wolves, but we managed to turn it on once again.

Luke Gale is proving he is worth every penny that we spent on him – that audacious flick pass was worth his transfer fee alone.

We’re starting to build a very healthy points difference which could prove pivotal later on in the season, providing we don’t hit any snags and suffer a huge loss.

It was particularly pleasing to see winger Tom Briscoe back on the field with the lads in pre-match, that must mean he’s very close to returning to the first-team fold.

Onwards to Catalans Dragons this weekend, which will be taking place behind closed doors due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It will be yet another big test to see how far we’ve come as a team. Catalans have some of the most-talented players in Super League.

Hopefully we can claim the two points and carry on this great run.

MATT FOWLER

It was another great performance last week against Toronto Wolfpack in both attack and defence. The team really look to be high on confidence and rightly so.

My only worry is we have not really played anyone in form except Hull FC in the first game and we were way off. The fixtures have really fallen kindly for us in that respect and allowed us to get off to a great start.

The next three games will really test us and be the benchmark of where we can go this season.

Catalans Dragons away from home is never an easy game and then the champions, Saints, at Headingley followed by Castleford away, will give us a better idea of how good our team really is.

There is no doubt confidence is high and the team spirit this year looks to be the best it has been for a long time. That will hopefully stand us in good stead for the challenges that lay ahead.

Injuries are having little effect so far as others are stepping up and taking their chance. The signs are good, but tougher challenges lay ahead.
