The club currently have 9,500 members and want to increase that to 15,000 fans through a new ‘This Means More’ scheme.

As reported in yesterday’s Evening Post, chief executive Gary Hetherington expects the current coronavirus shutdown to cost Rhinos around £1.5m of budgeted income over the next three months.

Hetherington said: “We are in unprecedented times and we have to find ways to help us survive this period and come back stronger.

“Our staff have been phoning members over the last week to check they are okay and if we can help them. It has been heartening to hear in reply our loyal supporters asking us what they can do for us.

“While we have enjoyed some incredible days out over the last 20 years, Rhinos fans also have long memories and know the key role they play in making us the club we are from their support in the tough times.

“By the time the team go back on to the field our aim is to have 15,000 members, which will send out a message loud and clear that we have been through it all together.”

Fans can become a Rhinos 2020 supporter member for £15 or by committing to a three- or five-game 2020 flexi membership from £60 for adults.

All members, including existing season ticket holders, will receive a ‘This Means More’ pin badge, personalised membership card and £5 Rhinos retail voucher. Rhinos director of rugby Kevin Sinfield said: “This is a fantastic initiative and a practical way our fans can pledge their support for the club.

“We are privileged to have the biggest fanbase in the game and with their support we can ensure the club is able to continue all the fantastic work we do in our community and for our supporters, young and old.

“Existing members can encourage friends and family to pledge their support or purchase them as gifts during the lockdown. Rugby league has shown on countless occasions in recent years how we come together in our hour of need and I am sure our supporters will respond to this appeal in the same way.”
