Leeds Rhinos: Important players '˜stick together' urges Burrow

The 32-28 loss at Catalans Dragons two days ago was Rhinos’ third in as many games at the start of the First Utility Super League season and they are bottom of the table.

It is an unexpected situation for a side that won the treble last year and Burrow stressed: “It is important you stay together in tough moments.

“We’ve had a lot of great moments, like the end of last year, but we will stick together.

“We are a tight bunch and I think that’s what you need when you’re in a tough place.”

Burrow feels the effort is there and results will come if Rhinos keep working hard.

“We are having a dig, but having a dig and actually getting results are two different matters,” he reflected.

“It is a tough spell at the moment and it is hard to put your finger on it.

“The effort is there from the boys, but sometimes when you try hard it doesn’t come off and sometimes it does.

“There will be a time when it turns and we start to get on the front foot.”

Burrow added: “It is a long season.

“The lads are having a dig and when you do that it works out good in the end, but we need to get through this patch and deal with it.

“You can’t keep conceding and conceding, we need to put in an assault on the league.”

Leeds had scored only five tries – two against Warrington Wolves and Widnes Vikings and one in the Dacia World Club Challenge loss to North Queensland Cowboys – before Saturday, but managed to double their tally.

It was five touchdowns each, the second time in three league games Rhinos have matched the opposition’s number of tries and Burrow said there were positive signs.

“It is a weird one,” he said. “Catalans is always a hard place to go, even when you’re playing well.

“We tried hard, even though we didn’t get the result or any points.

“If we weren’t having a dig that would be more worrying, but we will get through it.

“We have got enough quality players and good guys in this team. We will ride this tough bit out.”

Rhinos travelled to France without seven players due to injury and one suspended.

Of their 26-man full-time squad, only Jordan Baldwinson was not either in the team or on the casualty list.

Burrow refused to blame the injury situation and he stressed: “We have got a strong squad, a great squad.

“Thankfully if we get injuries we have still got quality players in there.

“That’s not an excuse, we could have won that one, but credit to Catalans. They were looking for their first win as well. It is disappointing and we keep saying it every week.

“We have just got to get on with it and deal with it because we’ve got Huddersfield at home this week.

“It is controllable. If we were just physically not good enough that would be worrying.

“But we are determined to put this right and we will do.
