Leeds Rhinos: Freescoring Sanderson carpets well-beaten hosts

STAND-OFF Joe Sanderson scored two tries and nine goals when Leeds Rhinos broke their duck with a 66-0 win over the North East Academy at Newcastle's Kingston Park.

Rhinos had lost their opening two matches, to Catalans Dragons and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, but bounced back in style by scoring 12 unanswered tries.

There were also doubles for Jack Wray, Ryan Jones and Billy McDermott.

Other try scorers were Mikaloj Oledzki, Harry Boyes, Sam Hallas and Jack Walker.

Rhinos, who led 40-0 at the break, were without star loose-forward Cameron Smith as they rotated their squad to give players who had not featured this year a competitive run.

Rhinos’ under-16s, meanwhile, made it two wins from two with a hard-fought 34-4 success against London Broncos at Stanningley.

Try scorers were Jack Broadbent, Kiedan Hartley, Liam Whitton, Ben Salby. Thomas Holroyd and Bradley Martin and Harvey Spence kicked five goals.
