Thursday's defeat by Wakefield Trinity was Holroyd's ninth appearance of 2020, but coach Richard Agar revealed: "Tommy has had a bad wrist for a number of weeks, which is a major factor in why he wasn’t selected at Wembley.

“He has wanted to keep going, but it has got to a point where enough is enough.

“He is trying to play footy with one arm, he can’t catch the ball or tackle properly, so we have pulled the pin.

“As much as he wants to soldier on, we are going to get him in for an operation on that straight away so he will be out for the rest of the season.”

Adam Cuthbertson will also miss the rest of this season after suffering a fractured shoulder in Leeds' Coral Challenge Cup final defeat of Salford Red Devils three weeks ago.

And Richie Myler, Matt Prior, Konrad Hurrell and Tom Briscoe won't play again in the regular season after going into self-isolation following a coronavirus outbreak at last Monday's opponents Castleford Tigers.
