Hunslet sign three players on loan - England academy prospect Dave Gibbons joins Parksiders from Warrington Wolves
Injury-hit Hunslet have signed three players on loan, including a familiar name.
Half-back Dave Gibbons son of the former Hunslet Hawks player of the same name, has arrived at South Leeds Stadium from Betfred Super League club Warrington Wolves.
Hunslet coach Gary Thornton has also recruited centre Ben Tibbs and Welsh international hooker Curtis Davies from Championship side Halifax Panthers.
Gibbons is a former East Leeds player.
His father played for Leeds at the start of the summer era and coaches Rhinos’ women’s side.
Thornton said: “Dave is a member of Warrington’s Super League squad and an England Academy international.
“He trained with us [on Wednesday] and is a very confident lad.
“I think we’ve been lucky to be able to get him and to draft in Curtis and Ben.”
They join Batley Bulldogs loan trio Wayne Reittie, George Senior and Anthony Bowman - who has been sidelined by a wrist injury suffered in training - at Hunslet.
Captain Duane Straugheir (back), hooker Vila Halafihi (wrist), stand-off Simon Brown (knee) and winger/fullback Kiedan Hartley (hamstring) have all been ruled out of Sunday’s League One game at Keighley Cougars and half-back Jy-Mel Coleman is on loan at London Skolars, but full-back Jimmy Watson (knee) is around a week away from his return.
