Ellis was placed on report in the first half of last Friday’s Coral Challenge Cup quarter-final, which Rhinos won 48-18.

The incident was studied by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel, who decided to take no further action against the former Castleford Tigers play-maker.

Their report said: “Player is tackled by opponent and is face up on the ground.

“Opponent adjusts left hand from underneath player and places hand in the mouth of the player.

“Footage does not demonstrate the player making a biting motion.

“Pressure applied on thumb may be as a result of the downward pressure of opponent onto player.

“Player moves face away from opponent.

“Club submit no additional evidence. No case to answer.”

Rhinos prop Ava Seumanufagai has also been cleared for Thursday’s Betfred Super League rematch after being sin-binned by referee Liam Moore for a high tackle on Rovers’ Matty Gee in the Cup tie.

The panel decided against charging Seumanufagai, reporting: “Player makes tackle on opponent.

“Footage inconclusive as to contact with head on opponent.”

There were no bans from last week’s Super League or Cup matches.

Huddersfield Giants’ Oliver Wilson escaped a ban after being charged with making grade A dangerous contact on Wakefield Trinity’s Bill Tupou.

Hull’s Manu Mau was charged with a grade A high tackle, which did not lead to a suspension and team-mate Brad Fash was cautioned for dangerous contact in their Cup quarter-final defeat by Wigan Warriors.
