He needs to play - Castleford Tigers boss frustrated over star winger's injury

Star recruit Sosaia Feki has endured a tough start to his Castleford Tigers career and boss Daryl Powell admits he is anxious to see what the New Zealand-born winger can do.

Feki joined Tigers from Cronulla Sharks last winter, but has not played a competitive game after being hurt in pre-season.

He was named in their initial squad ahead of the match against St Helens two weeks ago, but didn’t make the 17 and was not in contention for the 30-22 loss to Wigan Warriors last weekend.

Powell - who lost winger James Clare to neck damage against Wigan - confirmed: “He is injured. He has got a hamstring [and] calves, he is having a rough time of it at the minute.

“It is obviously disappointing for us and disappointing for him, but he needs to get himself out on the field.

“Clearly he is an important player for us and we haven’t seen him yet.”

Tigers have lost all three games since Betfred Super League resumed following the coronavirus shutdown.

“We play Salford on Thursday and we are going to have to respond quickly,” Powell said.

“Since the resumption of the season I think we’ve been set up a little bit - we don’t know who we’re playing and that’s tough, but there’s no excuses - we have got so many players who just need to play better.”
