Former Cronulla chief remains committed to Hunslet - despite joining Ebbsfleet FC

Former Cronulla Sharks chairman Damian Irvine says he remains committed to Hunslet as a volunteer non-executive director following his appointment as chief executive at Ebbsfleet Football Club.

The Kent outfit, currently second from bottom in the Vanarama National League, announced on Wednesday that Irvine has joined them.

The Australian has been involved with supporter-owned Hunslet since November, initially conducting a “due diligence” operation before pledging his continued involvement at a public meeting last month.

In a club statement, he said: “The club has come a long way since November, 2019 thanks to the genuine and sincere efforts of the supporters and trust members, the volunteers and board.

“Off the pitch things have strengthened and continue on a very positive trajectory mirroring the pre-season that head coach Gary Thornton and the team have enjoyed.

“Personally I’ve enjoyed every minute during my involvement and I look forward to continuing in a non-executive director capacity.”

The Parksiders’ Betfred League One opener at Keighley Cougars, scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed as the hosts take on Newcastle Knights in a delayed Challenge Cup tie today.

Hunslet are not among the League One clubs due to take part in this year’s 1895 Cup.
