Ex-Leeds Rhinos star Adam Cuthbertson expects big things from promotion-chasing York City Knights

York - now captained by ex-Leeds and Castleford Tigers forward Chris Clarkson - are on the verge of moving into a new stadium and have signed several hugely experienced players, including Cuthbertson, ex-Rhinos and Wakefield full-back Ben Jones-Bishop and former Trinity duo Ryan Atkins and Danny Kirmond, to strengthen their push for promotion out of the Betfred Championship.

Cuthbertson, who was a Challenge Cup winner in his final game for Leeds, last October, insisted: “The attitude of the players, team morale and culture is brilliant.

“It is exciting times - this is as professional as any club I’ve been at, from the facilities, to the stadium, the way we train, everything. It has been a real eye opener for me to see how things are done at this level.”

Cuthbertson is keen to pass on his knowledge, particularly having played under the sport’s new laws - including no scrums and six-again - last term.

“I want to help my teammates understand the level we need to play at to be challenging teams,” he said. “For me, it is great to have that experience of what level of fitness I need to come back at because of the new rules. I have been tipping off the players who play alongside me in the forward pack that we need to get a bit more mobile.”
