Ex-Leeds Rhinos forward signs new Wakefield Trinity contract

The 31-year-old back-rower, from Ossett, began his career at Wakefield and had spells with Leeds Rhinos, Hull, Bradford Bulls and London Broncos before returning to Trinity for the 2020 season.

“I’m over the moon and really happy to get it sorted,” Pitts said of his new deal, which includes an option for 2023.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year, despite all the difficulties in the year.

“It was a no-brainer for me to extend really.

“2020 was a frustrating season, with all the stopping and starting, plus all the self-isolating I had to do, but I’m just ready to kick on now and get going.”

Coach Chris Chester said: “I’m really pleased Pittsy is here for another few years.

“He has been really consistent for us since joining last season and it was a no-brainer for all parties to extend his deal.

“He is a quality player, a really good professional and a leader.”

Chief executive Michael Carter also welcomed the new deal. He added: “He is a local lad who has great pride in playing for his local club and captained the side on occasion this year, showing great leadership qualities.

“He is a real asset to the club and has brought culture change in the time he has been here.”
