Peteru has signed for Rovers until the end of 2020, subject to visa approval.

The New Zealand-born forward joined Rhinos from Gold Coast Titans on a three-year deal ahead of the 2018 campaign, but suffered separate long-term injuries to both his biceps during his debut season, restricting him to 13 appearances.

He played 19 times last year before leaving “by mutual consent” at the end of the season.

Peteru, 28, told Rovers’ website: “I’m very excited, I’m grateful to Tony Smith [Hull KR’s coach] and the club for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting into training and getting up to speed with everything.

“Tony approached me a while ago, but I had a few other things going on in my life. Then I talked to Tony again [and] I couldn’t really say no this time.

“I’m really, really thankful for this opportunity to come to a club like Hull KR and hopefully I can bring a positive influence to the place.”

Rovers are second from bottom in the table after losing five of their opening six games and have a lengthy injury list.

“Tony touched on the game time with me and I got myself up to speed with what has been happening at Rovers,” Peteru added. “I want to bring my bit of experience to the team.”
