Injury-hit Rams have lost four of their last five games, the only win in that sequence being at home to League One side York City Knights in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

They have tumbled to ninth in the Kingstone Press Championship and let a 20-point lead slip in the second half at Sheffield Eagles last week.

But coach Glenn Morrison described tomorrow’s sixth-round Cup tie as a “win-win” situation.

And he said: “Nobody expects us to win so we can work on what we need to do.

“If we put in the performance we can, we can come out with some positives and move forward in the league.

“But we are not going to make up the numbers, we are going to give it our best shot.”

Morrison said he has gone back to basics this week following the last-gasp loss to Sheffield.

“We had a good talk,” Morrison said. “We have new halves, a new hooker and new full-back this year and a lot of injuries and our performances haven’t been up to scratch. I pulled them aside and broke down our structure and training has been really good.”

Wigan coach Shaun Wane stressed: “We’re going to show Dewsbury the respect they deserve.

“They’re very well coached and a good team, a big, physical team.”
