“We are under a bit of pressure at the moment with personnel, but we have just got to crack on and deliver our best performance. We need to get under Wigan’s skin and put them under pressure.”

Both teams got off to a winning start, Wigan seeing off Warrington Wolves three days before Tigers’ opening win over Toronto Wolfpack.

Powell reflected: “It was pretty important, game one is always pretty important every season – and for us to get the win under reasonably trying circumstances for ourselves, it was a great effort from the players.”

He added: “Wigan did some smart things [last week] and as ever they are full of quality and have some young players who did really well for them.

“Rugby league is a physical game, that is the same every week, it doesn’t matter who you play. Wigan are notoriously a good defensive side and they will come at you with the physicality and the line speed and you have got to be able to ride that.

“They are also tough to break down and it will no doubt be a tough game for us.”
