Salford have made the better start to the season and are four points clear of Rhinos in the First Utility Super League table, with four wins to the champions’ two.

But Leeds have a dominant record against Salford, losing only once in 36 summer era meetings and Watson reckons his men will need to be at their best, despite Rhinos’ recent poor form.

“They haven’t had the best start to the season, but they’re still a great team full of great players,” Watson said of Rhinos.

“They won the treble last year and there’s only a couple of players they’ve lost from last season.

“While losing those players has dented them a little bit and injuries haven’t helped them so far, they’re definitely not a team you can take lightly.”

Salford are also in need of a win following last Sunday’s
32-18 defeat at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Watson predicted they will have to start better this evening and put in a more clinical performance.

He said: “We started off really poorly, but once we got into the game we controlled large parts of it and we dominated field position.

“In the second half we had a lot of opportunities to win the game, but Wakefield took better advantage of their opportunities.

“For whatever reason, we just didn’t make the best decisions and that’s something we’ve got to fix up ahead of Saturday’s game.”
