Some players may be one-hit wonders, but even many of Leeds Rhinos’ greatest stars are most known for a single incident, which took their career to the next level. Here’s 13 Rhinos players from the Betfred Super League era - some who are household names and others less famous - and what they are best remembered for.
7. Josh Walters
The second-rower went from working in the Headingley shop to becoming the club’s most unlikely Grand Final hero. His try levelled the scores against Wigan Warriors at Old Trafford in 2015 and set up Kevin Sinfield’s treble-clinching conversion. Photo: Alex Whitehead/SWpix.com
8. Jamie Thackray
The prop channelled his inner stand-off during a defeat at Catalans Dragons, when he unforgettably chipped past one defender, then another, regathered and stepped the full-back for Rhinos’ try of the 2007 season. Photo: Steve Riding
9. Leroy Rivett
The winger raised the roof at Wembley with a length of the field interception for the third of his four tries in Leeds’ 1999 Challenge Cup final hammering of London Broncos. Photo: Bruce Rollinson
10. Paul Sterling
The veteran winger’s length of the field try against Adelaide Rams in the 1997 World Club Championship, direct from a kick-off, was arguably the best individual score seen at Headingley in the Super League era. Photo: Justin Lloyd
11. Wayne McDonald
In 2003 the 6ft 7ins forward sealed victory for Leeds at St Helens in spectacular fashion, collecting the ball 20 metres from his own line, breaking past Paul Wellens, stepping Darren Albert and out-pacing Chris Joynt to score a long-range stunner. Photo: Steve Riding
12. Joe Chandler
Forward Joe Chandler made only one substitute appearance for Rhinos’ first team, but it was memorable as a scratch side - without seven players on England duty and as many injured - beat Castleford Tigers 18-12 at Headingley in 2008. Photo: Steve Riding
