Paddy Flynn.

Flynn – brought in from Widnes Vikings until the end of the season – is determined to help Tigers climb the First Utility Super League ladder and secure a top-flight contract for 2017.

He made an impressive start in last week’s record 52-12 win at Leeds Rhinos and is hoping to back-up in tomorrow’s Magic Weekend showdown with Warrington Wolves in Newcastle.

“It good to be here,” Flynn said of his new surroundings.

“I have not been in favour at Widnes, I just played the one game [against Rochdale in the Challenge Cup], so they could rest players.

“Things didn’t quite work out at Widnes, but one door closes and another one has opened.

“I am looking forward to rewarding Daryl [Powell, Tigers’ coach] for giving me this opportunity.”

Flynn is keen to rebuild his career and the opportunity to play at a top-eight Super League club was too good to miss.

He added: “I was asking Denis [Betts’ the Widnes coach] about whether or not I was going to play and he didn’t really have an answer for me, so when Cas showed an interest I said I wanted to go.

“I needed to play and I am out of contract next year, so for the sake of me and my family I need to earn a contract for next year.

“Widnes were happy to relieve some money on the salary cap, so they could potentially get a new player in.

“They have had a few injuries, so it works out for both teams. For me, it is all about taking this opportunity, not just for now, but for the future as well.”

Flynn is currently travelling over the Pennines to work, travelling with Lee Jewitt, Matt Cook and fellow former Widnes man Danny Tickle.
