Castleford Tigers: Jackson’s back at the Jungle

Former player Paul Jackson has returned to Castleford Tigers as player welfare manager.

Jackson, a prop-forward, made 77 appearances for Tigers in two spells, from 2003-4 and 2010-12.

He also had two stints with Huddersfield Giants and four seasons as a player at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

He joined Whitehaven from Castleford and now plays for Dewsbury Rams.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Tigers again,” Jackson said. “It’s a great club and I have many happy memories of my playing days here.

“I’ve been working alongside the RFL in a player welfare capacity for a while now and I’m really looking forward to getting to know the boys here and helping them as best I can.”

Tigers chief executive Steve Gill said: “Paul’s experience and training will be very valuable to him and the club in this very important position.

“He came highly recommended and knowing him from his previous times at the club I am sure he’ll be a good appointment for the club and its players.”

Jackson’s role will involve delivering the Super League player welfare policy, which covers the promotion of good mental health, counseling and advice over lifestyle issues, as well as assistance with education and future career opportunities.

Meanwhile, Tigers have signed 17-year-old back-rower/half-back Conor Fitzsimmons from the Cumbria Academy on an 18-month contract, after he impressed during a trial spell.
