The 21-year-old made his debut in 2018 and played 15 times for Tigers, including five appearances this year.

He signed a two-year deal in 2018, but the club confirmed earlier this season he would not be kept on for 2021.

Turner, who has also played on loan at Featherstone Rovers, is following in the footsteps of former Tigers player Kieran Gill by making the move to the north east.

“I spoke with Gilly quite a bit about the club and he loves it,” Turner told Thunder’s website.

“Also, the club is trying to go in the right direction and get into the Championship and then further on from that, so it seems a great idea to sign.

“I played at Cas for six years and fortunately got to play Super League with them, but I can’t wait to join Newcastle and to get back to enjoying playing rugby.”

Thunder director of rugby Denis Betts hailed Turner, who was capped by England at academy level, as a “Super League-standard player who harbours lots of ambition and a huge desire for success”. He said: “He is a quality outside-back, he can play at full-back, wing and even in the halves and will bring further threat to our edges.

“He comes from a fantastic set up at Cas and I’m looking forward to him joining us for the new season.”
