The early results from this week’s routine testing for Covid-19 across the 11 Betfred Super League clubs have included only that one positive test.

St Helens postponed their planned training today (Wednesday) and the club is working with the RFL on test and trace analysis relating to the relevant individual.

The staff member who returned a positive result is not displaying any symptoms and will be re-tested, with the possibility of further testing for the squad this week as a precaution.

A Super League statement confirmed: "Castleford Tigers, who played St Helens last Sunday, have also been informed, although at this stage there is no need for any of their staff to self-isolate under the test and trace procedures agreed for the resumption of rugby league with Public Health England."

A Castleford spokesman said: “We would like to wish the member of staff at St Helens well.

"Furthermore, following the latest round of tests on Monday, everyone at Castleford Tigers has received negative results.”
