Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell says winger James Clare will play for York City Knights this weekend in order to build some “confidence.”

The 24-year-old has scored three tries in seven games so far this season but now has greater competition for places with Denny Solomona set to make his return against Catalans Dragons on Sunday.

The New Zealander hasn’t played since suffering an injury at St Helens on February 27, only his third game since signing from London Broncos.

But Powell, who also confirmed recent signing Ryan Bailey will be in his 19-man squad when it is named tomorrow, said: “Denny is available now.

“He’s not played for a few weeks but obviously Sticks (Clare) didn’t have his best game last week and I’m just looking for him the chance to build some confidence.

“This (York) gives him the chance to play and I think that’s important for him.”

While Clare will take on Swinton Lion in League 1, it seems Ash Robson will get another chance to impress after the 19-year-old winger made a try-scoring debut for Castleford in Sunday’s 22-20 win at Salford Red Devils.

“I thought he handled it really well and did what I thought he’d do with his footwork and strength,” said Powell.

“It was a big plus. He looked pretty nervous beforehand but he handled the game with composure.

“He was a bit fortunate with his try but if you work hard you get that. I’m pleased for him.”
