Batley's part-timers take their second full-time scalp of season

Scrum-half Dominic Brambani scored two tries and Pat Walker kicked four goals against their old club in the Bulldogs’ 20-8 win over Sheffield Eagles. Alister Leek scored the other try for Batley, who opened the season with a shock win over Leigh, while Papua New Guinea internationals Menzie Yere and Garry Lo were tryscorers for the Eagles in their first defeat of the season.

Former England stand-off Rangi Chase scored the match-winning try for Leigh as they came from 20-6 behind to beat London Broncos 24-20. Leading 14-6 at half-time thanks to tries from Alex Foster, James Cunningham and Rhys Williams, the Broncos looked to be heading for a shock victory when Ben Hellewell went over for their fourth try on the hour, with Wes Naiqama kicking a second goal.

Sam Hopkins had scored the Centurions’ only first-half try a minute before the break and they ran in three tries in a decisive five-minute spell through Jamie Acton, Jake Emmett and Chase to turn the game on its head.

Workington are one of three teams still looking for their first points after going down 20-0 at home to Halifax.

Halifax led only 8-0 at half-time after scoring tries through Jake Eccleston and Ryan Maneely but made sure of a second win thanks to further touchdowns in the final quarter from Luke Ambler and Dane Manning, both converted by Steve Tyrer.

Meanwhile, in the iPro Cup, Hunslet Hawks suffered a disappointing 24-4 defeat at the hands of visitors York City Knights.

Richie Barnett scored the only try for Hunslet, who trailed just 4-0 at half-time.
