Batley Bulldogs: We must stay focused says coach Kear

Bulldogs are top of the tree following a 44-12 home win over Workington Town two days ago.

And Kear said: “I’d sooner be top than bottom!

“It is one for the fans, they can really enjoy where we are on the ladder at the minute, but we have played five games and after we’ve played Bradford on Sunday we will be a quarter of the way through the season.

“Everybody has got to realise there’s still three-quarters of the season left and a lot of work to be done before we enter the eights.”

Last Sunday’s game was Batley’s first against a team not expected to be pushing for a place in the top-four of the Championship.

“They were good again,” he said of his side’s performance. I thought they might get carried away and not give the opposition the respect they deserved, but they did and I was pleased about that.”

Wayne Reittie and Alex Bretherton both needed wounds stitching.

But Kear said there were no major injuries.

And another bonus is that Joe Chandler and James Davey will be back in contention for this weekend’s visit of Bradford Bulls.
