Batley Bulldogs: Diskin roots out inconsistencies

LACK OF consistency is Batley Bulldogs coach Matt Diskin's main concern after the opening six Kingstone Press Championship rounds.

Batley are seventh in the table with three wins and three defeats, but Diskin reckons they have yet to string a run of quality performances together.

A two-game winning sequence ended when Bulldogs lost 44-22 at Diskin’s previous club Bradford Bulls two days ago and he felt his team let themselves down.

“It was disappointing,” Diskin said. “From our point of view, I thought we were very poor.

“We lacked discipline, both regarding giving penalties away and regarding ball control.

“Bradford did not have to earn field position, we gifted it to them.”

Diskin admitted: “We are struggling for that bit of consistency at the moment in performance.

“The issue is not a structural one, we just had a lot of people off the boil.

“I am going to get to the bottom of why and try and correct it.

“I am sure we will do – it is a good group of players, they just need to start finding some form of consistency.”

Diskin said he will check the fitness of Tom Holmes and Cain Southernwood, who suffered knocks against Bradford, before deciding on his team for Saturday’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup tie at Toulouse.
