Amateur RL: Parkside put Premier rivals on title notice with latest win

The south Leeds team, who have been promoted through the Conference divisions as champions in successive years, are eight points ahead of second-placed Egremont Rangers with seven games remaining in the regular season.

They went behind to an early penalty goal, but opened an 18-2 interval lead through tries by tries by Jamie Fields, Craig Miles and Elliott Morgan.

Ben Shulver touched down in the second half. Fields and Danny Rowse kicked two goals each.

Thornhill Trojans remain top of Division One after a 40-18 win over Shaw Cross Sharks in the Dewsbury derby.

George Woodcock bagged a brace of tries, Will Gledhill, Zach Johnson, George Stott, Casey Johnson and Martyn Holland also crossed and Joel Gibson kicked six goals.

Sharks’ try scorers were Nathan Wright, Ash Berry and Dec Naughton. Ryan Chalkley converted all three.

A 31-18 reverse at Lock Lane was Oulton Raiders’ 10th successive defeat. Tom Egan scored a try and goal for Raiders and Hal Day also crossed.

Former Leeds Rhinos academy player Josh Sunley starred in Milford Marlins’ 27-6 victory against visitors Pilkington Recs. Martin Loveridge scored a try, two goals and a one-pointer, and Steve Bacon, Matt Brocksom, Dwaine McCrea and Josh Nathaniel were the other try scorers. Zac Snellgrove added a goal.

Stanningley coach Jordan Lilley, the Leeds Rhinos half-back, was sent-off for dissent during a 36-22 defeat by Crosfields which ended their 12-game winning run in Division Two. Dean Parker, Jamaine Ruan, Carl McGuigan and Ben Selby were try scorers for Stanningley, who remain top of the table, and Liam Copland added three goals. Stanningley also had Dave Williams and Stephen Welton yellow carded for backchat in the second half.

Hunslet Warriors’ home derby against East Leeds was postponed to avoid a clash with England’s World Cup quarter-final and will be played tonight (7.15pm).
