Amateur RL: Easts romp to opening-day derby victory

EAST LEEDS came out on top in the big National Conference Division Two opening day derby, winning 31-18 at Oulton Raiders.

Both teams were relegated last season and it was Oulton who made the early running, leading 6-0 at half-time through Josh Lancaster’s try, converted by Kieran Walpole.

But, inspired by two-try Tom Sheldrake, Easts turned up the heat after the break.

Nathan Conroy, Ryan Holmes and Adam Hartley also crossed, Conroy kicking five goals and a drop.

Dominic Flanagan and James Cruickshank replied with tries for Oulton, both improved by Walpole.

Thornhill Trojans kicked off with a 34-4 home win over Wigan St Jude’s.

Try scorers were Danny Ratcliffe (2), Andrew Lambert, George Woodcock, Ryan Fenton, Tom Gledhill and Jordan Clayton and Woodcock kicked three goals.

Stanningley’s Division Three campaign began with a 42-0 home defeat by Dewsbury Moor, who led 20-0 at half-time.

Brad Samme bagged a brace, Jacob Flathers scored a try and five goals and James Samme, Ashley Boddy, George Croisdale, Toby Richardson and James Eatherley also touched down.
