Turf Talk: First-time blinkered thinking can help Time Change overcome 5lb hike on Lingfield all-weather debut

Ralph Beckett’s filly steps out for the Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap, having previously run just once on an all-weather surface – at the much stiffer Newcastle. She does so after a break of more than two months, and with first-time blinkers applied.

Time Change’s most recent effort was her best, though, at Listed level when she outran her odds of 50-1 at Yarmouth to be less than six lengths behind Fanny Logan – who was Breeders’ Cup-bound following her prolific winning spree.

There is nothing of that calibre in opposition today and, if the headgear helps Time Change too, she has plenty in her favour despite a 5lb rise to account for her improvement last time.

Foresee, by contrast, has gone up just 4lb for this month’s back-to-back wins at Kempton and Wolverhampton – and he can take advantage in pursuit of the hat-trick in the Betway Handicap.

Tony Carroll’s gelding is back down to 10 furlongs, for the first time in more than a year, at this sharpish track – but his accustomed running style of late suggests that should be no detriment.

Naizagai is another one of interest at Lingfield in the Ladbrokes Where The Nation Plays EBF Novice Stakes. Roger Varian has sent out three juvenile winners in the past week – and after running with promise on soft and heavy ground in his two attempts to date, it will be no surprise if Naizagai keeps up the good work on his switch to the all-weather.

There is a decent evening at Chelmsford for Casanova. John Gosden’s reformed character had excuses for his disappointing return to the all-weather at Wolverhampton last month – and can make amends in the Bet toteswinger At totesport.com Handicap.

Casanova was previously in fine form, following his gelding operation, and can resume his progress here.

An hour earlier, number five should be the lucky number in the Bet totequadpot At totesport.com Handicap.

Alemaratalyoum has the form in the book to go close at least, but the suggestion is to stick to the digits rather than letters to avoid the tongue-twister if deciding to place a bet.

Over jumps at Ffos Las, Evan Williams appears to have found a good opportunity for Golden Whisky to open his fencing account in the Burns Pet Nutrition Novices’ Handicap Chase.

The six-year-old was a useful hurdler last season, on soft ground, and a course winner in a decent handicap back in January.

His chasing debut did not go to plan when he was pulled up at Uttoxeter last month – but a six-length third next time at Chepstow, behind a winner who has gone in again since, was much more encouraging.

Golden Whisky was prominent over the minimum trip that day, but was outpaced before staying on again late, so this move back up to almost two and a half miles looks spot on.

At Taunton, Seeanythingyoulike has a chance to make up for his recent fall in the Mike Trickey And Geoff White Memorial Handicap Chase.

Jeremy Scott’s eight-year-old remains a maiden after 16 career starts, despite being sent off favourite in his last three races.

The form was nonetheless there to run well last time, and Seeanythingyoulike appeared to be doing just that until old jumping frailties re-surfaced with a fall when disputing the lead just before the straight at Ludlow.

He should be in the thick of it again here, if avoiding mishap back up in trip.
