Togetherness shining through for Leeds Chiefs

Going into their double-header weekend against Basingstoke Bison, the Chiefs were rooted to the bottom of the table and with just 12 skaters having seen James Archer, Radek Meidl and Brodie Jesson all depart.

Add to that the absence of defencemen Steve Duncombe and Bobby Streetly, there was every reason to believe the West Yorkshire club would not be adding to their tally of three wins.

But the Chiefs defied the odds, not only winning 4-2 in the first game on Saurday but then coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in overtime on Sunday.

Player-coach Sam Zajac said he was pleased to see the team ethic and togetherness shine through.

“Nobody tried to do anything that we didn’t want them to do, everybody just stuck to their job which was great to see,” said Zajac. “The togetherness really shone through and the team ethic really came through to make it a great weekend.”
