Leeds Knights v Peterborough Phantoms: Netminder Lavigne biggest obstacle for Knights

Ryan Aldridge says Leeds Knights have to find a way to get the better of netminder Hayden Lavigne if they are to avenge an opening weekend defeat to Peterborough Phantoms.

Leeds lost 4-3 in Peterborough as they came out of their first two games with nothing to show for their efforts having already been downed 7-4 by Telford Tigers on home ice the previous night.

But Leeds have fared the better of the two teams since that trip to Cambridgeshire, with Peterborough heading to The Castle having won only one of their last six games.

“Peterborough have a very good roster,” said Aldridge (inset). “They’ve got good goaltending and when Hayden Lavigne is on his game he is hard to beat – he can win games on his own for them.

“That’s not taking anything away from their forwards, I just think that is how good he can be and was at the start of the year when we played them down there – he was phenomenal that night.”

But as his players found out back on September 21 in Peterborough, there is more to Ashley Tait’s team than Lavigne.

Canadian forward Cameron Hough leads the league in goalscoring with 16 from as many games, while Janne Laakkonen is top for assists, with his 25 from 15 games has him well on the way to at leeast matching the 82 helpers he posted last season.

"They’ve clearly got good offence, and a good D-core that has largely been there for a long time and know each other very well,” added Aldridge.

“They are a good hockey team and we know that we’ve got to be at our best.

"Hopefully, the things we have been putting in place this week and with getting guys back, we’ll have a different look at the game and see where we stand.”
