Leeds Knights remain grounded despite turnaround in NIHL National form
RYAN ALDRIDGE insists Leeds Knights are in no danger of getting ahead of themselves - despite becoming the NIHL National’s form team with a six-game winning streak.
The Knights enjoyed the perfect ‘long weekend’ when a 3-2 home win over defending regular season champions Swindon Wildcats ensured a maximum six-point return from three games in four nights.
Two goals from Owen Sobchak on the back of Kieran Brown’s equaliser that cancelled out Liam Fraser’s 14th-minute power play strike ensured the hosts could follow up their 5-2 win in Solway on Friday and a 4-1 derby triumph over Sheffield Steeldogs 24 hours earlier.
It leaves the Knights - missing imports Sam Dunn (injury) and Liam Peyton (suspended) for the Swindon game - fifth in the league standings and fourth overall in the National Cup table with three games to play.
The first one of those comes at home to Bristol Pitbulls - part of a double-header weekend against the league’s rock-bottom team - before closing out their Cup group schedule with a visit from Romford Raiders and a trip to Hull Seahawks the following week.
But while the mood in and around the Knights’ locker room may be more positive than it was a little over two weeks ago following the club’s worst-ever start to a NIHL National campaign, Aldridge was keen to emphasise nothing was being taken for granted.
“Coming into the Swindon game, we had a few guys out of the line-up - two imports out of the line-up and it was obviously always going to be a tough game,” said Aldridge.
“And so to get the two points out of that, it didn't matter what it looked like really. At the end of the day, for us, it was about getting those two points.

“I’m really proud of the boys - three in four nights, the last six games, they've worked their hearts out and tonight (Sunday) was unbelievable.
“It should be not be our norm to win six in a row, obviously, but it should be our norm to be competing every night. And that's what we're doing right now and we're getting results from it.
“But I think it's just about not getting ahead of ourselves. We weren't good enough at the start (of the season) but we’ve found our form and we need to just keep that rolling.”
