The 36-year-old helped guide the Whites Under-23s side to the Professional Development League national title last season and was a key figure in Marcelo Bielsa's backroom staff.

The Spaniard has occupied a dual role since the arrival of the Argentine last summer overseeing the transition from the development squad into the first-team ranks.

Corberan is thought of very highly at the club with United keen on ensuring his stay over the off-season.

Interest from Leonesa emerged last week but it now understood that he will remain at Elland Road with the Spanish third division side set to appoint Jose Manuel Aira instead.

Cultural currently hold a spot in the Spanish third division and are controlled by Qatar's Aspire Academy.

United established an official partnership with the development centre in 2018 and Leeds board member Ivan Bravo, the head of Aspire, oversees the running of the club as part of his role.

The Whites were briefly involved in a tie-up with Leonesa during the 2017-18 season which saw players Ouasim Bouy and Yosuke Ideguchi both spend time their on loan.

Corberan told the YEP last month that he had been impressed by Bielsa's impact at the club, saying: "Marcelo arrived here and the connection with the first-team, for the 23s, they had an immediate connection.

“Every day they are involved with his demands. Every day they are training with high intensity.

“At the end you have to start thinking of your ambitions and if the first-team is competing at a high level then you have to do the same as Under-23s.

“The formation of our players is the same (as the first-team), we try to win every time. We try to develop the winning mentality of our players.

“They have shown they have developed this part. That is one of the keys in football.”
