Leeds boxing student Liv winning with Sharky's Training

Third year Leeds Conservatoire student Olivia Lava enjoyed winning her bout on the first Wilder Leeds Student Fight Night so much that she signed up for the second event held just before Christmas.
“I’m delighted and proud to have won both my bouts,” said Liv. “I’d always loved boxing and even had a punchbag in the garden at home.
"I leapt at the opportunity to fight and enjoyed everything about it as I became a bit obsessed with the sport and particularly the training. I noticed positive changes in my physical and mental health so wanted another go.”
“Training at Sharky’s gym in Meanwood over six weeks was first class so many thanks to Jamil Khan, Bob Tuckett and Vas Petrou and Leroy Brown known as Sharky. A Leeds boxing legend apparently. I also enjoyed giving advice to the novices including technical tips and how to settle nerves on the night.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed forming friendships with other boxers and the student organisers. It was encouraging to see many female boxers participating and on fight night at Stylus in Leeds University there was a large turnout offering support. I was elated to see my netball society teammates involved too. There’s a strong sense of community around the event.”
“This Leeds event with 14 men and 10 women boxing raised £12760 for The Oddballs Foundation which raises awareness of testicular cancer,” said Sal Wilder.
“All five Leeds universities were represented in the two 2025 events which raised over £24 thousand. Students can now sign up for the third planned for 15th March.”
