After recovering from being 90-5, York set the hosts a target of 167-9, led by the efforts of Richard Brown, who was undefeated on 41.

Liam McKendry and Ryan McKendry also made 32 and 30 respectively with ’Gate’s Ben Coad, David Forster and Tom Geeson-Brown all taking two wickets piece. And it was Geeson-Brown who went on to prove the star of the show with the bat as he hit the winning boundary with just three balls to spare to take ’Gate to 171-9.

Academy were 97-run victors at second-bottom Scarborough, who were left chasing 272-5 after the efforts of Matthew Waite, who was unbeaten on 74, and Mosun Hussain, who made 61. Scarborough were kept to 175-6 in reply.

Castleford are third bottom after an eight-wicket loss at home to Stamford Bridge who skittled Cas for just 89.

Bridge then easily overhauled at 90-2.
