Moortown GC ladies teams celebrating triple success in league combat


The club have a modest ladies membership of around 50 ladies and each team - Scratch, A and B - requires seven players.
The Scratch team finished top in Division 2 of their league, taking 37 out of a possible 42 individual games and winning the Sue Johnson Cup to secure their promotion back into Division 1 next year.

Hide AdThey played Otley, Moor Allerton and Wetherby, amassing 12 points and 37 wins.


The Scratch team are the first-place qualifier and meet Wakefield, second-place qualifier, in the knockout final at Brough on August 27.
In this section there are only two finalists and whatever the outcome both will go up to Division 1.
The A team played some stiff opposition in Ganton, Hessle and Headingley, and the B team met Sand Moor, Romanby and Whitby.

Hide AdEach team played a home and an away match and both the A and the B teams accrued 11 points with 28 and a half wins.
Moortown A qualified fourth and meet the first qualifier Thirsk and Northallerton in the semi-final on September 10 at Halifax West End.
This is the second year in a row they have made the finals, which last year they won.
The B team achieved the second qualifying position and will meet Malton & Norton in the semi-finals on September 2 at Selby.

Hide AdMoortown’s teams comprised a mixture of well-established and long-serving lady members plus several players who have joined in the last 12 months.
The club operate an Academy programme for both new lady golfers and those returning to the sport after a break.
